Obituary for Neil Gerald Bell

Neil Gerald Bell
BELL, Neil Gerald “Gerry”
April 12, 1936- February 19, 2015.

Gerald in his 79th year passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice. Loving husband and best friend of the late Norma Jean (Eaket) for over 51 years. Devoted and caring father to his children Kevin (Jill), Kerry-Lee Labbe (Rick), Terry-Lynne Marko (Jim), Lisa Murray (Marty) and Marnie Croy (Tony). Memories of Grandpa’s love and the many special days shared with him will be cherished by his twelve grandchildren Brandi (Aaron), Melanie (Zoran), Scott (Norma), Adam, Marlyna (Rob), Erik, Alysha (Justin), Joel, Jordan, Jenna, Dayna and Tia.

Dad’s life was centred around family, and numerous family events many of which occurred at the family cottage. His focus on family was evident as he made career choices to remain and build a life in Iron Bridge, where he and Norma owned their own insurance business until their retirement. He was a dedicated and committed volunteer fire fighter with the Iron Bridge Fire Department. He was a passionate and expert crossword puzzle player and with his excellent knowledge of English vocabulary- he was his own scrabble dictionary – one which we all utilized every time we played. We will miss Dad’s quiet wit and quick smile, both of which were evident to the end. His wisdom and guidance will continue to guide the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Great grandfather to Miia, Dejan, Kai, and Penelope. Loving son and son-in-law of his parents the late David and Ella Bell and the late Clarence and Alta Eaket. Dear brother of Merton (Marge), Earl (Nora), Elsie and the late Leona (late Don) and dear brother-in-law to Donna (Jim), the late Ross (late Faye) and the late Lyle. Special uncle to many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dear and special friend to Joan Laderoute.

Special thanks to the caring and dedicated staff at Pathways Retirement Residence, the many compassionate nurses, volunteers and staff at the Sault Area Hospital in particular during his last days in the renal dialysis unit and 3C, the empathetic and attentive care provided by so many at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice, and a special thank you Dr. Shafiee, Dr. Berry and Dr. Fratesi all whom provided such compassionate and expert care to Dad over the last 18 months. It gives us great comfort and peace to know that Dad now joins his beloved wife Norma in heaven.
Friends may call at St Andrews United Church, Blind River on Monday, February 23, 2015 from 10 am until time of service in the church at 12 noon with The Reverend Dr Paul Stemp officiating.
Memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital or the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) would be appreciated by the family.
