Mrs. Marilyn L. Dunn (née Hernden) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the age of 79. Marilyn was born to parents Charles and Lillian Hernden on January 15, 1939, in Thessalon, Ontario. She grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, as the eldest of seven. On July 29, 1958 Marilyn married her childhood sweetheart, Richard R. Dunn and the couple went on to have three children. Marilyn enjoyed a long career with Centra Gas. Marilyn was a member of the Elizabeth Rebekah Lodge and regularly volunteered at the Thessalon Food Bank. Marilyn was passionate about her family, and enjoyed the simple pleasures of cooking, recipes, knitting, reading and spending summers on Big Basswood Lake. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Katherine Dunn (Ed), her son Chris Dunn and daughter Karen Dunn Wilson (Doug) and daughter-in-law Dawn Marie Dunn. She is survived by her sisters Bernice Dean of Burlington, Ontario, Betty Ann Pinnell (Myron) of Ottawa, Ontario and her brother Kevin Hernden (Valerie), sister in law Bertelaine Frechette (Ken) and a large extended family. Marilyn was the beloved Nan of two grandchildren, Allie Bedard (Grant Roberts) and Richard Carter Dunn and three great granddaughters, Kirsten, Kendyll, and Blair. Marilyn had a special relationship with cousin Lorraine Jago (Larry). Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dunn, her parents, Charles and Lillian Hernden, mother and father in law Elaine and Bert Dunn, and her brothers Brent, Craig and Lynn Hernden. The family is very grateful for the care, compassion and support that Mom received at Pathways Retirement Centre, the Sault Area Hospital and the Algoma Residential Community Hospice. A very special thank you to Dr. Yee, Dr. Fratesi, Dr. Amimi, and to Mary Hill, RN, who were kind, compassionate and supportive through Mom’s lengthy illness. Thank you to Mom’s favourite Pharmacist Alistair Rasaiah, and his staff Havela and Alison who are so very kind and supportive. At Marilyn's request, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at St Ambrose Catholic Church, Thessalon on Thursday May 24, 2018 at 11:30am followed by interment in Pine Grove Cemetery. The family is grateful for condolences and declines flowers. Should you wish to remember Marilyn in a small way, she would appreciate donations be made to the Thessalon Food Bank, ARCH or to be honored by a random act of kindness.
