Gallagher, Charles Robert
October 2, 1918 – August 28, 2018
Charles Robert Gallagher died peacefully on August 28, 2018 at the Algoma Manor with family by his side, 5 weeks short of his 100th birthday. Son of the late Helena and Charles Gallagher of South Porcupine. Predeceased by his loving wife Patricia (nee Bowie). Beloved father of Bob Gallagher (Claudette), Anne Cavanagh (the late Paul), Margaret Hodgson (Christopher) and John Gallagher (Wanda). Special grandfather of Paul John, Patrick, Katherine and Mark Cavanagh, Alysa, Trevor and Monica Hodgson and Corey and Mariah Gallagher. Great grandfather of 16. Predeceased by his sisters Kathleen Gallagher, Mary Gauthier (Harold) and twin sister Betty Mogan. Also predeceased by his mother-in-law Veronica Bowie, brothers-in-law Bill Bowie (Dorothy), Peter Bowie (Kathleen) and sisters-in-law Joan Bowie and Barbara Stanley (Allan).
Survived by many nieces and nephews, special niece Deirdre Mogan, and brothers-in-law Donley Mogan and John Bowie.
Although he lived over half his life in Blind River and Elliot Lake, his heart never left South Porcupine. He’ll be remembered for his sharp mind, quick wit and wonderful stories of flying and many outdoor adventures.
Special thanks for the wonderful care given by Dr. Mary Shamas over many years and the support of a great caring staff at Algoma Manor.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to visit at Menard Funeral Home (72 Lakeside Avenue 705-356-7151) on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 630 pm to 830 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. James the Greater Parish at 11 am with Father Ignatius Xavier officiating. Burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
