Obituary for Sarah Erma LePage (Carlyle)

Sarah Erma LePage (Carlyle)
Sarah Erma Le Page

Sarah passed away peacefully in her 90th year at the Algoma Manor, Thessalon, Ontario on
Friday, January 12, 2018 where she had been living for the last 4 years. She was the loving wife
the late Clair Le Page and the cherished mother of Bob (Jan) of Oshawa, Dennis of Sault Ste,
Marie and Terri Brown of Toronto. She is fondly remembered by 5 grandchildren, 12 great
grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is survived by brother Albert (Eileen), and many
nieces and nephews. Sarah was predeceased by her parents Jack and Margaret Carlyle,
daughter Shelva Rivers (Wayne), infant son Michael, her brothers Leslie (late Lillian), Bob (late
Eila), Percy (Catherine) and Garfield (Audrey) and her sisters Rena (late Norman), Betty (late
David), Priscilla (late George) and Josephine (late Bill), and by 3 great granddaughters, Aubrey,
Ruby and Opal.Sarah grew up on a farm on Chevis Road south of Iron Bridge. She was the youngest girl in a family of 5 boys and 5 girls. She attended public school in Iron Bridge, - a 4 mile walk from
home. When she finished grade 8 it was time to look for a job. Her first jobs were that of
providing short term domestic help on some local farms. She then worked briefly in Blind River
as a housekeeping helper before returning to Iron Bridge to help her parents who had bought a
bake shop in town. While working there she was introduced to Clair LePage, an avid
outdoorsman from Kynoch, 12 miles north of town. They fell in love and were married September 2, 1946. Sarah was 17 years old. She would turn 18 a couple of weeks later on September 19th. They were married for 55 years. Clair died in February 2002. Sarah is remembered as a warm and kind-hearted person. She was sociable and fun loving. She enjoyed attending community dances, visiting with friends, collecting antique oil lamps, and getting out in the bush. In spite of being married so young she became a skilled homemaker and cook who could produce a hearty meal from simple ingredients. In later years she was noted for her coconut cream pies. Her life was marked at times by struggle and loss but always she endured and persevered, finding strength in family and friends, and in her religious faith. All in all, she has been blessed to live a good and full life. The family invites you to join them at the Beggs Funeral Home on January 16th, 2018 at 930 am for a visitation until time of service at 11am with luncheon to follow. The Reverend Michelle Robinson officiating. In lieu of flowers the family appreciates donations to the Bellingham United Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family wants to thank Dr. Haapala as well as the staff and residents of the Algoma Manor for their care and kindness. They also wish to thank family, friends and neighbours of Kynoch and Iron Bridge who were supportive of Sarah in her later years.
